Sterling Ruby in Vienna

Sterling Ruby (born 1972, lives and works in Los Angeles) is one of the most controversial and unpredictable American artists of his generation.

The oeuvre ranges from glazed biomorphic ceramics, cast urethane sculptures to large-scale works on canvas, drawings and collages to video works.
The focus of Ruby’s first survey exhibition in Europe was on works that deal with military imperialism and war rhetoric and refer to the commander Prince Eugene of Savoy. The baroque state rooms in the Prince Eugene’s Winterpalais formed a unique contrast to the artist’s esthetic positions, including a series of tapestries designed especially for the show.

Dr. Renée Gadsden spoke at the opening of the Exhibition in 2016.
